Textured Breast Implants

The debate of which shell surface is better for breast implants varies greatly in opinion by all cosmetic surgeons. Some will not even touch a textured implant while others use them without hesitation.

Textured breast implants can be round or in tear drop shapes. The shaped implants are usually textured to help prevent them from turning or moving after placement. The textured surface on the implant helps the surrounding tissue to adhere to the implant and this is what keeps the implant in place. These types of implants are usually used in the over the muscle placement. This type of placement means that implant will be in front of the muscle and behind the breast tissue and is one of the easier placements that a plastic surgeon can perform. The textured shell surface implants also come in the options of being saline implant s or silicone ones.

The textured shell breast implants were also created with hopes to have a lower tendency for capsular contracture. This means that the texture of the breast implant helps to inflame the surrounding tissue. The inflammation helps to keep the scar tissue from squeezing on the implant and causing visual deformities and discomfort. This is still up in the air of weather it is true or not.

One downside to choosing the textured shell breast implants is the cost. It does cost a little bit more to have these placed because of the care that is needed by the surgeon while doing the surgery. Another downside to choosing textured implants over smooth ones is the recovery time and possible the size of the scar. They also have the tendency to have a more noticeable wrinkling affect than that of the smooth textured implants. Textured breast implants are also harder to remove if they ever need to be replaced.
